Speechless. Completely speechless.
That is how my prayer time has been lately. Several people I know have gotten some bad news about their health and have asked for my prayers, but all to often I am left without words. My heart cries out to God, but my voice is left silent.
In moments like these I rely on the truth of this verse,
“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father know what you need before you ask him.” Matthew 6:7-8
It’s not the amount of words that we say to God or how eloquently we say them. God knows our heart and He knows what we need and want before any words approach our lips. When we are left speechless and can’t find the words to say, the Holy Spirit speaks for us, taking our request to God Almighty and interpreting on our behalf.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Romans 8:26
Thank you God for allowing us to come before you with our requests and desires. Thank you that you know what we are going to ask for before a syllable approaches our lips. You are a gracious and giving God who loves to bestow gifts of love on your children. Teach us more about who you are through our pray life and may you strengthen our hearts as we spend time with you today. Amen.
