Spending Time with Jesus

Posted by Amy Spear on February 2, 2017 at 3:05 PM
When you think of powerful preaching in the New Testament we naturally think of Jesus. Aside from Jesus we might also think of Paul. What about Peter? He is not one I think of right off-the-bat, after all he was the one who denied Jesus three times and left Him at His most critical moment in life. But listen to these words... "Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: 'Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.' Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved." Acts 4:8-12 Talk about BOLD! Peter spoke these words less than 2 months after Jesus was crucified on the cross, standing in front of the same court that accused his Savior. He clearly was a changed man! He no longer wanted to run and hide. He no longer denied who is Master was. He no longer cared about his life or losing it. He no longer cowered away from the scene. He had changed! What was different about this man? What would turn a coward into this bold mighty preacher we read about? I mean these men who he spoke to and accused, had the power to enact the same destiny to him as they did to Jesus, death on a cross! "When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus." Acts 4:13 Had been with Jesus. It was written all over him! Those who were blind to the truth could see clearly that Peter had been with Jesus! Jesus always makes us brave. He gives us strength to do His work, to continue doing good, to preserver in our calling, to help others, to love others, to speak the truth. When all we want to do is run and hide and be a coward, we need to go and be with Jesus. What is it that has you cowering in a corner? Is there something that God has asked you to do that you simple don???t want to? Take it from an expert, you will regret not doing it! I would much rather fail at what the Lord has called me to do in obedience, than not obey and do things my way! Just like Peter was, disobedience leaves us sorrowful and full of regret. Yet when we run to Jesus, and seek Jesus and learn to be with Jesus, He changes us! He provides for our every need and gives us BOLDNESS to accomplish what He has called us to do. No longer do we have to bare the testimony of backing down from the fight, but we can stand strong like Peter, and speak Jesus with Boldness and Love! Jesus makes us Brave!
